St. Catherine of Siena Music Ministry

Why Sing? The Music of our Liturgies aids both in the transmission of God's Word to the Assembly and in the Assembly's response to and understanding of that Word. Music can also reveal to the worshipper a deeper dimension of meaning and feeling which texts alone cannot yield. Hence, Music can be a powerful form of prayer as well as a vehicle for the full, active, and conscious participation of the Assembly in the Liturgy.

There are many ways to become involved in the music Ministry of St. Catherine of Siena Church. We have four choirs that regularly sing at weekend liturgies. While some choir members sing for the entire season (September to June), others participate for only part of the year as their schedules allow. Choir members have varied levels of musical abilities but share a common desire to minister at parish liturgies through song.

Choirs at St. Catherine's

Traditional Choir

Traditional Choir sings at the 10:30 AM Mass on Sunday and for other special occasions from September to June. While music of all styles and time periods is prepared and sung, the majority of the repertoire is of a classical nature and accompanied by organ. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

Contemporary Choir

The Comtemporary Choir sings at the 9:00 AM Mass from September until June. Its repertoire is contemporary in style and is accompanied by piano, guitars, and other instruments. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

Cherub Choir

Cherub Choir offers children in Grades K, 1, and 2 the opportunity to participate in St. Catherine’s Music Ministry. Rehearsals are on Sunday from 11:45 AM to 12:15 PM. The Cherub Choir sings periodically at the Sunday 9:00 AM Mass and for special seasonal events.

Junior Choir

Junior Choir is for children in Grades 3 through 6. Rehearsals are on Sunday from 11:45 AM to 12:15 PM. The Junior Choir sings at the monthly 10:30 AM Religious Education Mass and for special seasonal events.

Youth Choir

Youth Choir is forming for young people in grades 7 through 12. It will sing once a month at the Sunday 5:00 PM Mass, when the Confirmation class is present.

Vesper Choir

Vesper Choir sings for the parish celebrations of Evening Prayer on All Souls Day, Nov. 2 and St. Catherine of Siena’s Feast Day, Apr. 29. Music is mostly the unison singing of chant. A good way to try singing in a choir.

Summer Choir

Summer Choir sings at the Sunday 9:00 AM Mass from June through August, rehearsing at 8:30 AM prior to the Mass.

Instrumentalists

Instrumentalists can either play regularly as a member of one of the Choirs or be called upon periodically to supplement the music for special parish celebrations. Instrumentalists wishing to play at Liturgies should contact the Director of Music.
