St. Catherine of Siena is the
Patron Saint of Italy and a
Doctor of the Church.

She was born Catherine
Benincasa in Siena in 1347.  At
an early age, she joined the
Third Order of Saint Dominic in
which she gained a reputation
for great sanctity.  Recognizing
her holiness and wisdom, many
followed her leadership in her
devotion to the poor.  She
labored incessantly and with
fiery zeal for the unity of the
Church and was a devoted
champion of the Papacy.

She died in Rome in 1380 after
a remarkable life, leaving a
legacy of
outstanding spiritual treatises.

Saint Catherine was canonized
in 1461.

Her Feast occurs on April 29.

St. Catherine of Siena Scholarships - Apply Now!
Attention all graduating high school seniors!  Applications for the 2015 scholarships
are now available
HERE.

The St. Catherine Scholarship Fund provides scholarships and awards to graduating
high school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership
skills through their participation in church, school and community service activities.
The scholarships and awards are funded by contributions from individual
parishioners and corporate donors to the St. Catherine Scholarship Fund.

Completed applications must be postmarked no later than May 1, 2015.
The bishops are requiring that at minimum every 5 years a person’s certification for
Protecting God’s Children be updated. We realize that this may not be something that
people are happy about however it is an absolute requirement.

Those who have taken the session in the last 5 years do not need to renew at this
time.
We encourage all other volunteers to renew by June 1.

The update can easily be done on a computer at home by clicking on the link below:

our children and those who are vulnerable.

Special On-Site Training is being offered:

With our Carnival coming up, our need for volunteers increases. In an effort to make
this renewal process as simple as possible, especially for those who would rather not
use a computer to renew their certification, the diocese has scheduled renewal
sessions here at St. Catherine’s in the Lucey Parish Hall.  The dates are:

  •  Sunday, May 3 – 12:00 to 1:30 p.m.
            Light lunch will be provided.

  •  Wednesday, June 10 – 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
            Light dinner will be provided.

Pre-registration is required - please visit
www.virtus.org to register for one of these
sessions.

Note: These sessions are RENEWAL sessions only. New volunteers must
register for separate sessions.

We invite all parishioners to become a volunteer, in any capacity, here at St.
Catherine
's. Please visit www.virtus.org to register for a New Volunteer Training
session that is convenient for you.
